However, you'll need to download the free Logitech Gaming Software from Logitech's website in order to take advantage of the device's 7.1 Dolby surround-sound capabilities. The Logitech G430 requires Windows 8, 7 or Vista, and will work as soon as you plug it in. After several hours of gaming and Web browsing, it was easy to forget we even had the headset on. The sports-performance cloth on the ears and headband remained cozy throughout our testing, and we never felt as though our ears were brushing up against the interior of the two ear cups. However, you'll only be able to take advantage of the equalizer, 7.1 surround sound and voice-chat functionality when connected to a Windows-operated computer via the included USB dongle.Ĭlick to EnlargeWe found the 9-ounce G430 comfortable to wear, thanks to its lightweight design and generous amount of earpiece space. At the end of the cable are individual 3.5-mm headphone and microphone plugs, which can be connected to the included USB adapter.Īlthough it's designed for PCs, the G430 can be used with any smartphone, portable console or any other device that has a headphone jack. The G430's light-blue cable has a switch that can be clipped onto your shirt, allowing you to adjust the volume and mute your microphone without taking a break from the action. They may take a little bit of time to get used to wearing, especially if you have a bigger-than-average head, but provide significant value at a very reasonable price.Click to EnlargeThe G430 measures 7.25 x 7.75 x 3.5 inches and weighs 9 ounces, with a headband that can be adjusted by several inches for a customized fit. Overall, the G430s are a solid buy at $79.99, and can compete with headphones that are significantly more expensive. The headband and over-the-ear cans are both padded with breathable cloth-covered foam, and while the headset is a bit tight, even after adjustments (people with huge heads beware), the headband and cans never caused discomfort. However, after roughly two weeks, I appear to have adjusted, and can now wear them for hours at a time with little to no discomfort. Most of the headsets I’ve used in the past have been on the lighter side, and I was at first experiencing mild head and neck pain related to the headset’s weight after about an hour of use. I initially found the G430s to be on the heavy side. Physically, the headset’s microphone is a little thick, but also rather flexible, and can be turned upwards out of the way. Tests on Skype, Mumble, Google Hangouts, and a number of in-game chat services produced easy-to-hear conversations with no static or cutting out. Although the headset’s microphone doesn’t offer studio quality recording capabilities, it’s more than passable for Skype conversations or voice chat.
